Hi, my name is Geraldina Dijkstra

I'm a children’s book author based in Hobart. My love of the night sky and Tasmania’s natural world has inspired me to create Tasmania’s first glow in the dark book ‘Chasing the lights’.

Chasing the lights

Adventure-filled glow in the dark book

Chasing the lights is a unique glow in the dark book that follows a compelling story of two Tasmanian children in search of their parents. During this adventure the two children come across some amazing illuminated and bioluminescent sights, such as sea sparkle and glowing fungi.

My dream

I hope that this book will inspire young explorers to go out and discover our beautiful surroundings with their families, instead of being focused on electronic media. By showing some of the amazing, natural, bioluminescent phenomena in Tasmania, I hope children will become just as passionate as I am about seeing the sites in this wonderful State.

A Tasmanian first

This is the first book published in Tasmania, filled with glow in the dark illustrations on every page. Many children have fluorescent lamps or stickers of stars or constellations, but an entirely filled glow in the dark children’s book is quite unique in Australia.

World trip

After growing up in the Netherlands, I moved to Australia almost 10 years ago. What was supposed to be a holiday, changed into a permanent stay. I worked in a number of different jobs, from construction to hospitality, until I decided to go back to my creative roots.

About

Graphic Design

In 2016 I started a Graphic Design study in Hobart. When asked to work on a passion project, I knew immediately that I wanted to create something about Tasmania’s night sky. Whilst cycling home I decided to create a glow in the dark children’s book.

Self-published

Not only did I write the story myself, I’ve also designed the illustrations and have created the layout of the book. Chasing the lights is my first book and I’ve decided to self-publish and distribute it.
